Detailed as Brigade Inspector, May, 1863.
July/August 1863, absent as Brigade Inspector
Promoted to Major September 19th, 1863 by General R. E. Lee.
Captured in Battle 28 July 1864, near Petersburg, Va.
Sent to Fort Delaware, August 11, 1864
Released July 24, 1865, By Order of the President, dated 21 July 1865
Height 6'0, dark complexion, hair and eyes.

Harper was born Oct. 10, 1827, died at Lowndesville, SC on March 4, 1886, and was buried in the family cemetery. He was in the SC State legislature, 1858-61 and 1878-80.

It has been reported that Harper was wounded four times, he was also wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness.
