Re: Perrin Brigade at Gettysburg

Joe

I appreciate your reply. What struck me is that when visiting this part of the Gettysburg Battlefield the portion of the Park road where Perrin Brigade assualted was almost devoid of any markers Union or Confederate. While less than 300 yards away at the northern end of the same road was a literal forrest of markers and monuments along the Chambersburg Pike, denoting the collapse of the Union Line. But that portion of the Union line did not collapse until after Perrins Brigade had effected their breakthrough on the southen portion of the Union 1st Corp Battleline.

So it would appear that the National Park is being misleading in their interpretation in making it appear to suggest that the Confederate breakthrough occurred along the Chambersburg Pike. True once the southern portion of the Union line collapsed the Northern portion along the Chambersburg Pike had to withdraw immediate for fear of being surrounded. But the fact is they they had successfully defended their position until that time.
