Morningside books in 1975 reprinted a 1891 book title "The History of the Fourth Regiment S.C. Volunteers" by Jesse Walton Reid.

This book is primarily Reid's letters home during the War. However he does not discuss the regiments Unforms or weapons. It does have very good descriptions of the regiment engagements in 1861, the Battle of 1st Manassas, etc.

It might be of some interest to you in your reseach if you can located a copy in your library.

A second simular book "Camp Life of a Confederate Boy of Bratton's Brigade, Lomgstreets Corp, CSA" was written by LT Richard Lewis, originally printed in Charleston, by The News and Courier Book Press, 1883, was reprinted by Butternut Press.

Likewise, Lt Lewis originally served in the 4th S.C. before the orginization of Micah Jenkins Palmetto S.C. Sharpshooter, which he became a part of. His letters parallel those of Reids covering the same events in 1861. Again no description of the 4ths Uniforms.

However, if you are not aware of these two sources you may wish to see if you can locate a copy.
