Re: HAMPTONS LEGION MOUNTED INFANTRY

Lee,

Since you have access to S.C. records which I don't I concede that that were no dead or wounded or possibly as you say not there at all.But I still feel the question that Fitz Lee ask of Hampton about Old Church "if Shingler or Gary can watch " shows they are both there, also why would a commanding officer be away from his unit which is trying to get completly organized? Also the 7th was organzied in March of 1864 so they were not newly formed
as Hampton's Legion and the 24th Va had been around for awhile.
Gary becomes commander of his brigade and the 7th was there apparenty the 24th Va with Robins to,but none of Hampton's? Ranson who commanded the forces at Richmond is crying for troops but never mentions the Legion.Even Butler was assigned to Ransom on 10 May 1864.
You seem to be right all around, but why leave out a fighting force such as this even let's say they were'nt
mounted? They had to be somewhere.

Yours Aye,

Ray

P.S. I love these discussions, keeps the mind sharp
