New book on 15th SC - response to Arnie Dowd

Arnie,

You inquired about Sgt Spencer D.S. Highland of the 15th South Carolina Infantry.

May I suggest that you look at a new book that will be available in mid-September this year?

After 12 long years of research and writing, James B. Clary's book has been completed. It is entitled, "A
History of the 15th South Carolina Infantry: 1861-1865".

It will be available for purchase at the 10th Annual SC Civil War Symposium at the SC Dept. of Archives and History in Columbia on 21-22 September 2007. Jim will be at the
Symposium signing books.

The book documents the men and actions of the 15th South Carolina Infantry from the time the men mustered-in for Confederate service during the Fall of 1861 until this
fighting regiment was surrendered at Greensboro, NC to General William Tecumseh Sherman in April 1865.

Jim tell ms that the book has over 600 pages and 150 plus detailed maps and photographs, and that it uses primary sources to document the 15th South Carolina as they fought in 20 major Civil War battles across seven states.

Arnie, included are the personal war records of the 1,442 men who served in the regiment.

This book may also be purchased on the Web at www.15thscinfantry.com.

Jim has shared some of his sources with me and I'm very impressed by his research.

Bryce
