The 1st (Charleston) Bn. SC Infantry was organized with seven companies in Apr 1862, and the 1st Bn. SC Infantry Sharpshooters was organized during the summer of 1863. These battalions were consolidated to form the 27th SC Infantry Regiment on 30 Sep 1863. Your ggf may have served in one or both of these predecessor organizations. Hope this helps.
