The "Memory Rolls" (compiled by the State of SC with the assistance of survivors in the 1890s) list Pvt. Alexander Bridges, age 27, and Pvt. Nicholas Bridges, age 18, both of the Spartanburg District in Company A. There is no mention of wounds or imprisonment. Under "Remarks" are the notes "Living" for each man.

It appears that the Spartanburg District supplied most of the men for Companies A, B, C, E, I, and K of the Holcombe Legion. One or more of the companies might have been organized at Cowpens, but the Legion was assembled in either Columbia or Charleston and it trained while defending the coast just south of Charleston during the spring of 1862.

For details of dates of enlistment you will need to see the Compiled Service Records of each soldier. Microfilm copies of these records are held by the SC Department of Archives and History and by major public and university libraries in SC.
