Many thanks to Mr. Knudsen. This gives me valuable information such as his middle initial, death date, and the book he got the information from. This will help in pulling his war records. I wanted this information because - I have James F. Brown's gun. I recently purchased the very musket he was carrying when killed at Fredricksburg. The man I purchased the musket from knew the grandson of Private Brown. He was in his nineties and the gun had been kept in the family all these years. This grandson had to sell the gun sadly for money to help pay his own burial expenses. The man who had the gun also had all the information I gave on Private Brown except that which you have provided. Along with the musket he was carrying, I got the powderhorn and a small blood-stained haversack and a cork from his canteen. The gun bears his name on the stock - J. Brown. The family had always passed on the information that he was in Orr's Rifles and killed at Fredricksburg. I now hope to determine where he lived in SC. I feel blessed to have acquired such a treasure. Would there be photo in the book you mentioned? I will definitely look for the book. By the way, the gun is not for sale as I am a private collector. Thanks again. Thomas. B. Sawyer
