Many years ago As a young man in college, I met an older man that actually knew elderly Confederate soldiers when he was growing up in the 1920's and 30's. He stated that 2 of the vets said that Robert Gould Shaw was accidently shot by his own men. They said that it happened as the sun had gone down. He was sillohetted against the parapet and mistaken for an enemy soldier.
