Kenneth:
Thanks for your reply to my 30 September 2003 post about Lt. Frederick W. Andrews. I'll be glad to share what I have about him from our book, "Oh for Dixie!" by Joe and LaVon Ashley.

Captain Davis mentions "Andrews, S.C." in a March 14, 1865 diary entry as being one of the soldiers in Davis' "mess." The following information about Lt. Andrews is taken from the Biographical List in our book (pgs. 153-4):

"Andrews, Lt. Frederick W. During Hood's Tennessee Campaign in 1864, First Lieutenant Andrews served in Company K, Twenty-fourth South Carolina Infantry, commanded by Col. Ellison Capers. On 30 November, at the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee, Andrews served with the Twenty-fourth in Brig. Gen. States R. Gist's Brigade, Maj. Gen. John C. Brown's Division, Cheatham's Corps of the Army of Tennessee. In a report, Colonel Capers commended Andrews for his bravery. By 14 March 1865, Federal troops had captured Andrews and sent him to Camp Chase Prison near Columbus, Ohio."

You have our permission to quote the above information from our book, should you wish to use it in your forthcoming book about Gist's Brigade. My wife and I realize you will have put in many years of research, editing, and writing before you complete your "labor of love." We took about eleven years to research, edit, and write "Oh for Dixie! As Mississippi's foremost Civil War historian, H. Grady Howell Jr. said about writing CW history, a person has to have a "fire in the belly" desire that motivates you to keep at the task until the job is done! We would encourge you to keep Grady's words in mind as you work on your book during the forthcoming years.
