i want to say a little more about wiley drayton o'shields he was a farmer lived on the o'shields plantation in spartanburg county s.c. he lived there along with his mother and his brothers and his sister. they enjoyed sitting around the fire place as they would bake things. and they got up a string band. this was called the o'shields band. and this was a very good band they played at the o'shields reunion and churchs. time goes by and wiley gets married to julia smith the year 1851. now let me tell you about his married life. but first lets go back and look at his birth 1832. i have already told you the year he was married so i want go there. let me tell you about their children. i will name them in order as they were born. their first child was james monroe o'shields' born 1852 in walnut grove' next frank marion o'shields was born 1853 also walnut grove spartanburg county s.c. and robert belton o'shields was the third child born 1855 enoch thomas o'shields was the fourth child born 1858. gidden henry o'shields was born 1859 and died the same year. next child born was henry wetsel o'shields 1860. i have already told about wiley drayton o'shields and how he enlisted in the confederate army this was in 1861 and was discharged from service of the c.s.a. a medical discharge. it has been told that he made shoes for the army this may or may not be true. wiley drayton o'shields was my great grandaddy and julia smith o'shields was my great grandmother. their last child was w.g.s. o'shields born 1863. w.g.s. o'shields was my gradaddy and his wife annie hyatt o'shields was my grandmother. wiley drayton lived to be 50 years we thank God for wiley drayton and his mother and all his brothers and his sister. william paschal o'shields born 1824' samuel drayton o'shields born 1825 polly ann o'shields born 1833 isaac scott o'shields born 1834 or 35 this is all his brothers and his sister.
