This exquisite 18th century home was build by Revolutionary War hero, General William Lenoir and named for a frontier French and Indian War Fort that stood nearby. The home has been fully restored to its late 18th, early 19th century splendor and houses over 300 original furnishings and historic household items.

During the War Between The States several members of the Lenoir's served the Confederacy one being Thomas Isaac Lenoir Captain in the 25thNCT who is buried on the property. Also Stoneman's Raiders rode through and threatened to burn the home and its buildings but instead harnessed the slaves and stole food and livestock. Even thou the main focus of the property today is covering Colonial times. The homestead and its history spans over 200 years. Current management of the Historic site is trying to bring more attention on all the history of Ft Defiance through events like this one.

If you want to escape the summer heat and travel back in time. You cant get any better than this.
