Re: Return to Ft. Sumter
In Response To: Return to Ft. Sumter ()

Robert N. Rosen gives a good account of the flag raising ceremonies at Ft. Sumter on 14 Apr 1865, in his book, CONFEDERATE CHARLESTON. The gun actually exploded on 14 Apr 1861, while the Union garrison was firing a salute to the flag, preparatory to evacuating the fort. PVT Daniel HOUGH was mortally wounded, and thus became the first Union casualty of the war. This period of the fort's history is also covered in Rosen's book.

Hope this helps.
