Reading Bell Irvin Wiley's phenominal work on the common soldier of the Confederacy entitled "Johnny Reb", a soldier in the text wrote home that his weight had fallen from 167 to 137 pounds.
How were Confederate soldiers able to weigh themselves with such accuracy...or at all in the field?
