My gr gr grandfather John Warren White was a member of the Spartan Rifles from Spartanburg. If I am not mistaken, it was a prewar militia unit which became Co. "K", 5th S.C. Vols and later Co. "K", Palmetto SharpShooters. He and three of his four brothers were in the company, and later the fourth one showed up. Only one of the five White brothers survived the war.
