Re: Reminisences of the Sixties

Gil,

Let's start with a couple of facts.

The 20th S.C. Inf. defended Charleston until it joined Lee's ANV in May 1864. Col. Keitt of the 20th SC, by reason of seniority, commanded the brigade in his first and last action with the ANV on June 1 1864 at Cold Harbor. Keitt was killed at the head of his troops.

The regiment and the brigade fought at the Siege of Petersburg and in the Shenandoah Valley in 1864 and in 1865 was sent to reinforce Joe Johnston in NC. It fought at Bentonville, NC in March, 1865.

If you give me your email address I will send you an article I wrote on the First Battle of Deep Bottom where the 20th fought in July 1864.

The 24th SC Inf. was part of Gist's Brigade in the Army of Tennessee and fought in all their battles.
