Re: Scandinavian soldiers
In Response To: Scandinavian soldiers ()

I was wandering by and happened upon your question. Slight correction to the information give in reply. There were zero "Stalcops" migrating into America from Scandinavian. The name, or family, has never existed in Sweden. The family started entirely within this country. However, all the rest of the reply information is correct. There were several hundreds of Stalcups, Stallcups. Staulcups and Stallcops serving on both sides during the Civil War. A very large number of them, maybe 200 +/-, from Texas alone. My own great-grandfather was in the CSA, Company K, 9th NCST (First NC Calvary). He had two uncles in the same Company that, like him, survived the War but another uncle from TN was killed during the siege of Atlanta. Never looked much at Union soldiers but likely a large number from IN can be found if you turn over a few rocks. As far as Scandinavians, per se, there are probably thousands. Try the Swenson Research Center in Augustina College in Rock Island.
