W. W. Hickman, Private, Company B, Byrd's Battalion Infantry**, enlisted May 15, 1862 in Clarendon District [no further records]

**This company was formerly Captain Dickinson's Company D, Manigault's Battalion South Carolina Volunteers.

The 6th (also known as Byrd's) Battalion South Carolina Infantry was organized in May, 1862, with three companies that had formerly served in Manigault's Battalion South Carolina Volunteers. It was consolidated with the 9th Battalion South Carolina Infantry by S. O. No. 211, A. & I. G. O. dated September 9, 1862, to form the 26th Regiment South Carolina Infantry, and this company became Company H of the regiment.

W. W. Hickman, age 21, Private, Captain J. S. Whitworth's Company 2nd regiment South Carolina Volunteers**, joined for duty June 4, 1861 at Clarendon, South Carolina, discharged at Richmond for disability January 4/8, 1862

This company subsequently became Company C, 9th Regiment South Carolina Infantry

Hickman, Private, Company H**. 26th South Carolina Infantry, enlisted May 15, 1862 in Clarendon District, admitted Jackson Hospital, Richmond, Virginia with Febris Int [Intermittant Fever which is Malaria] February 28, 1865, furloughed for 60 days on March 31, 1865 [Ed. note - he had been hospitalized a number of times previous in 1864, complaint not listed]

**This company was formerly Company B, 6th Battalion South Carolina Infantry
