Octavius A. White appointed Surgeon November 4, 1861 in the Palmetto Battalion Light Artillery later designated 3rd Battalion Light Artillery, it was also known as White's Battalion South Carolina Light Artillery, October 1862 on detached service at Wilmington, North Carolina, February 1863 detached to examine conscripts, ordered to report to General J. H. Winder at Andersonville, Georgia October 25, 1864, last reported at Florence, South Carolina January 26, 1865

His records are found in two places, that of the 3rd Battalion South Carolina Light Artillery and the other in M331, Compiled Service Records of Confederate General and Staff Officer, and Nonregimental Enlisted Men.
