Re: Colubmia SC Disabled CW Veterens Home

Fred, thank you for the website info. Unfortunately this would not have been applicable to my gggrandfather as he died prior to the opening of this home. Were there any other facilities that might have existed that would have given treatment or care to veterens anytime from the end of the war through the 1890's and early 1900's? My gggrandfather applied for and received a pension in 1891 (not sure this is the exact date, but will check)and the doctor said at that time his wounds were still open. He was wounded in the face with a miniball taking away his eye and damaging his facial bones. I know that his homeplace was in the Darlington area, but he is found living in Columbia in 1880 making me wonder why. It has been suggested that he may have been there for medical care. Any halp or suggestions would be appreciated.
