So far as I know, there was no government supported veterans care facility in SC prior to the opening of the Confederate Infirmary in 1908. That institution was established by the Legislature after years of pressure from veterans groups and the UDC, which suggests the absence of any similar institutions prior to that time. It may be that your ancestor came to Columbia to seek medical treatment for his war injuries, but it would have been from a private facility.
