Here is some information on Glenn E. DAVIS, as well as his brothers, Flinn and Zimmerman, and other relations who served in Co. D (South Carolina Rangers), 5th SC Cavalry:

DAVIS, Flinn C.: PVT, Charleston Dist. b. abt. 1845, Fairfield Dist., SC. 5’ 8” tall, fair complexion, dark hair hazel eyes, occupation: student. Enlisted at Charleston, SC, 15 Mar 1862, age 16. Detailed as courier to COL John DUNOVANT. Capt. near Fayetteville, NC, 7 Mar 1865, and escaped during the action at Monroe’s Crossroads, NC, 10 Mar 1865. Surrendered at Hillsboro, NC, 27 Apr 1865. Tobacco broker in Louisville, KY in 1880. Brother of Glenn Edwin and Zimmerman DAVIS, and nephew of Nathan H. DAVIS.

DAVIS, Glenn Edwin (1843–1930): PVT, Charleston Dist. b. 4 Oct 1843, Fairfield Dist., SC. Residence: Charleston, SC; occupation: student. 5’ 8” tall, ruddy complexion, dark hair, brown eyes. Trans. from Co. F, 6th SC Cavalry, in exchange with John E. SALISBURY, 6 Nov 1863. Detailed as courier to COL John DUNOVANT. Appt. SGM, 5th SC Cavalry, 15 Mar 1865. Post-war, sheriff of Charleston Co., SC, and last surviving member of Co. D. d. 17 Apr 1930, Charleston, SC, and buried there in Magnolia Cemetery. m. Fannie B. STOCK, abt. 1873. Brother of Flinn C. and Zimmerman DAVIS, and nephew of Nathan H. DAVIS.

DAVIS, Nathan H. (1820–1901): PVT, Greenville Dist. b. Mar 1820, Monticello, Fairfield Dist., SC. Residence: Greenville, SC, occupation: lawyer. 6’ 1” tall, fair complexion, dark hair, dark eyes. Enlisted at Charleston, SC, 1 Sep 1863, age 43. Detailed as private secretary to MG Wade HAMPTON, 1 Jun 1864, with acting rank of CPT. Paroled at Greensboro, NC, [1] May 1865. Post-war, attorney in Greenville, SC. d. 27 Oct 1901, Greenville, SC. Uncle of Flinn C., Glenn Edwin, and Zimmerman DAVIS.

DAVIS, Ross (1846–1864): PVT, Fairfield Dist. b. 1846. 6’ 0” tall dark complexion, dark hair, dark eyes, occupation: cadet at SCMA (Arsenal), Columbia, SC. Trans. from Co. F, 6th SC Cavalry, age 19, in exchange with George T. SUMMERS, abt. 15 Nov 1863. Trans. to Co. E, 15th SC Infantry, 1 Mar 1864, and appt. 2LT. DOW in hospital at Petersburg, VA, 13 Jul 1864.

DAVIS, Zimmerman (“Zim”) (1834–1910): CPT, Charleston Dist. b. 3 Oct 1834, Monticello, Fairfield Dist., SC. Residence: 277 East Bay St., Charleston, SC. 5’ 10” tall, light complexion, dark hair, dark eyes, occupation: cotton broker. Attended College of Charleston. Pre-war, LTC, 16th SC Militia Infantry. Enlisted in State service at Charleston, SC, 6 Nov 1861, and appt. 2LT. Appt. 1LT, 20 Jan 1862. Reenlisted in Confederate service at Charleston, SC, 17 Feb 1862, age 27. Appt. CPT, 12 Apr 1862. WIA (hand, slightly) at Lynch’s Creek, Darlington Dist., SC, 24 Feb 1865. Provisionally appt. COL, 5th SC Cavalry, 15 Mar 1865, but war ended before promotion could be confirmed by the Confederate Senate. Commanded GEN Joseph E. JOHNSTON’s escort at Durham Station, NC, 17 Apr 1865. Paroled at Augusta, GA, 25 May 1865, and took Oath of Allegiance at Columbia, SC, 3 Jun 1865. Post-war, treasurer of city waterworks, and active in civic and veterans affairs in Charleston, SC. d. 30 Mar 1910, Charleston, SC, and buried there in Magnolia Cemetery. m. Cornelia Jeanette MCIVER, 10 Nov 1857. Brother of Flinn C. and Glenn Edwin DAVIS, and nephew of Nathan H. DAVIS.
