Re: Calvin Robinson - Palmetto Sharpshooters

It took some doing, but I found his records hidden behind those of the "2nd Reserves, 90 days."

I do not find him in the records of the 5th SC Infantry.

The 2nd Battalion South Carolina Sharp Shooters (Smith) was a six month battalion which was formed in June of 1862 and disbanded by December of that year.

Two muster rolls for this battalion survived to be recorded, the first on August 31 at Mc Phersonville and the second covering the period September/October 1862 at Fort Johnson, Jas Isld, S. C. which notes, "Moved camp from Mc Phersonville, S. C. to Fort Johnson Jas Isld S. C. on the 29 Sept. 1862"

On the August 31, 1862 muster, Private C. Robinson, Company B, is recorded as "Has not reported for duty (Deserter)." The Sept/Oct muster roll records "Absent - Absent without leave."

There is no mustering out roll, thus we do not know if he subsequently reported for duty.

His two card file is found in M267, Roll 171 - Titled "2nd Reserves, 90 days, 1862-63, 2nd Battalion, Sharpshooters"
