Bunch lists a John Thornley, Pvt., G/11 SC Inf., as being tried on 29 July 1862 and being acquitted of a violation of Article of War 43. Article of War 43 reads: "Every non-commissioned officer and soldier shall retire to his quarters or tent at the beating of retreat; in default of which he shall be punished according to the nature of his offence." The Preliminary Inventory 101, War Dept Collection of Confederate Records at the National Archives, shows the following for the Records of the Dept. of SC, Ga., and Fla.: Orders, Dept. of SC and Ga., November 1861-September 1862; General Orders, Dept. of SC, Ga., and Fla., July 1862 to January 1864; and Orders and Circulars, Dept. of SC, Ga., and Fla., 1861-1865. You may be able to find a copy of Pemberton's General Order 56/1/23 dated 9 September 1862 among those records.
