Private George McKinney, age 29, enlisted June 28,1861 at Spartanburg in Company I, Captain William M. Foster's Company, 2nd Regiment South Carolina Volunteers**, last recorded present on his company's Nov/Dec 1861 muster

**This company subsequently became Company I, 9th Regiment South Carolina Infantry.

The 9th (also called the 2nd) Regiment South Carolina Infantry was organized July 12, 1861. It was not re-organized for the war but most of the members subsequently served in the 5th and 6th Regiments South Carolina Infantry and Palmetto Regiment South Carolina Sharp Shooters.

NOTE: I would assume he transferred to the 9th South Carolina following the reorganization of the Confederate Army ca May 1862
