Hugh, the UDC chapter has been chatered again. The motives to have the monument removed is that any ceremony we may have there may be disruptive to the church. One SCV chapter already knows this issue. Some of it's members are also church members so that avenue has been covered. Genealogicaly, since the monument is not 100 years old, it probably won't be considered as historical. We do have clear right to the monument
Maybe a lawyer is the last choice we may take.
As far as SC not being interested in these issues, I cannot
say, I have only been a member of the UDC for about 10 months. My ancestors who served are from Alabama and that is where my focus has been, but I want to make sure all soldiers are honored and this monument was erected in honor of them, so it should not be removed from the original place. Ann
