My great grandfather was William W. Humphreys. He was a major and company commander of C company in thr Palmetto Sharpshooters. I have a sword that was surrendered to him by a Union officer but I have been unable to find out which battle this occured. I would appreciate some guidance on how to begin looking for my answer.
