Private P. N. Gasaway, Company E, 2nd South Carolina Rifles, cards filed with Phillip Gassaway

Phillip N.Gassaway, age 18, enlisted in Captain Thomas H. Boggs' Company, attached to Orr's Regiment, South Carolina Rifles** enlisted October 24, 1861 at Pickensville, South Carolina, paroled at Appomattox Court House, Virginia April 9, 1865,

**This company subsequently became Company E, 2nd Regiment South Carolina Rifles.

Companies A to F, of this regiment, were organized in October and November, 1861, and were temporarily attached to 1st (Off's) Regiment South Carolina Rifles until December 10, 1861, when the 5th (also known as the 1st and as Moore's) Battalion South Carolina Rifes was formed of these companies. About January 11, 1862, Company G was added to the battalion, which was increased to a regiment April 27, 1862, by the addition of Companies H, K and L, and designated the 2nd Regiment South Carolina Rifles.

Also in Company E were Thomas Gassaway, age 22; William C. Gassawy, age 19; and George C. Gassawy, age 19
