John Hurst was 20 years old when he enlisted in Company A, 14th South Carolina infantry August 10, 1861 at Lightwood Knot Springs. His company was mustered into the service of the Confederate States September 10, 1861. He was continuously present with his company up through their last muster extant, for the period Nov & Dec, 1864 near Petersburg, Va. He was captured sometime in March 1865 by members of the 6th Corps., Army of the Potomac. You might be interested in the regiments Descendants Association.
