This is the only James M. Scott in McCreary's 1st SC Infantry

James Madison Scott enlisted as a Private in Captain Wm. T. Haskell's Company, 1st Regiment South Carolina Volunteers* August 27,1861 at Charleston, South Carolina by Capt. W. T. Haskell for the war, recorded on the May & June 1863 muster as "absent wounded," admitted to Howard's Grove hospital, Richmond, Va. June 3, 1863, gunshot wound to the arm, furloughed for 30 days July 16, admitted to C.S. A.General Hospital, Charlottesville, Va. May 8, 1864, gunshot wound, furloughed May 25, captured at Sutherland Station April 6, 1865, sent to Point Lookout, Maryland prison camp, arrived at City Point, Virginia April 14, released June 19, 1865, resident of Charleston, S. C.

* This company subsequently became Company H, 1st (McCreary's) Regiment South Carolina Infantry
