Hi Frank, I have a picture of 2nd Lt. Joshua C. Floyd, Co. H, 26th SC who died in July 1863 of disease in Mississippi. His picture shows him wearing what looks to me to be more of a forage cap as opposed to a kepi. Do you know where your ancestors photo was taken? From what i have observed it seems that Confederate photos are rre after the first year of the war. I've always assumed the tightening blockade made it difficult to get material for photos or maybe it was just too expensive for most soldiers to have their photos taken.
