In Response To: 11th S. C. Infantry ()

The following information appears in Kirkland, Randolph W., Jr., DARK HOURS: SOUTH CAROLINA SOLDIERS, SAILORS AND CITIZENS HELD IN U.S. PRISONS, 1861–1865, (Charleston, SC: 2002).

The 9th SC Infantry became the 11th SC Infantry when it was mustered into Confederate service in Mar 1862.

It should be noted that there were several men named JUDY in the 9/11th SC Infantry, including J. JUDY, Co. H; J. A. JUDY, Co. H; J. W. JUDY, Co. H; and Jacob JUDY, Co. A, as listed in Hewett, Janet B, ed., SOUTH CAROLINA CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS 1861–1865, (Wilmington, NC: 1998). Thus, it should not be assumed that the Jacob JUDY in Co. A was the Jacob JUDAH said to have been sent to Ft. Delaware.

Hope this helps.
