The headstone for Matilda showing on Findagrave lists Joseph's middle initial as "S". I don't understand who the lady was who applied for his pension (as noted by George Martin). I descend from the Wilds family of Darlington through Samuel Wilds Gillespie. Will try to find if the S stood for Samuel. Captain S.H.Wilds of Company B was later promoted to major of the regiment.
