I don’t know if it’s any help but George Washington Belcher’s widow, Mary Jane, on her 1919 widow’s pension application, indicated that he served in his command “until the close of war.” The application is posted on the SC Dept of Archives and History website.

George had been approved for a pension in 1901 and collected it until his death in 1907. Mary Jane was approved the same year for the widow’s pension. Unfortunately neither of those pre-1919 applications appear to have survived, only the one from 1919 when all pensioners had to reapply.
