Captain Sims of South Carolina

On October 13, 1864 Francis pond with an infantry brigade attacked a confederate position on the Darbytown Road outside of Richmond, Virginia. The federals were slaughtered.

The next day, Captain Alfred P. Rockwell of the sixth Connecticut wrote a letter in which he described going to retrieve the body of major Henry W camp of the 10th Connecticut who had been killed the day before. He mentions meeting captain Sims of South Carolina, who he describes as a pleasant and agreeable man.

There were two South Carolina brigades in the vicinity. One was under Bratton and consisted of infantry. The other was a cavalry brigade under Martin Gary.

Can anybody identify who Captain Sims was?
