16th South Carolina

We have a soldier buried in Greenwood Confederate Cemetery in Barnesville that has no regiment on his headstone. We have found him listed in Roll OF The Dead SC Troops Confederate States Service. In this book it states that J. Hamett 16th SC died in hospital at Barnesville, Ga. on July 26,1864. He is listed as a private. In the book South Carolina Troops , we find J. B. N. Hammet Militia 16th Regiment Prendergast's Co. listed as a Sgt. On the "Civil War Sodiers and sailors System" he is listed as a Sgt. If anyone has any information on this man I would appreciate them letting me know, I would like to know his actual rank etc.
Thanks,
Al
