Here's my 2 1/2 cents-if Helpful:
According to the CWSS J. W. White went in and was discharged as a 2nd Lt. (One gold bar on each side of collar)
Henry F. McDowell went in as a Corporal and was discharged a
Sergeant (Two stripes for corporal & three ditto for a Sgt)
There might be a way to check for sure identity-if either of the above joined the UNited Confederate Veterans and there was
a newspaper account/photo of reuniuons; likewise UCV magazine
notice/obituary or a 20th centiry obit with photo
