Re: Removal of Confederate Monument

Ann, hello and good day.

"remove a gravestone or other memorial monument or marker commemorating a deceased person or group of persons, whether located within or outside of a recognized cemetery"

This wording clearly says they cannot remove the monument.

You mention that the UDC chapter has papers that clearly say the "plot" belongs to them. There is nothing more needed in your defense than these papers in my view.

Which reverend wants this moved? Lumpkin? Reverend Mike S. ? What was the reason given for its removal?

I was just in that cemetery photographing the grave site of CSA Major Benjamin Burgh Smith, Jr. Also very near him is the grave of CSA Lt. John Wilson Jamison. He was the son of David Flavel Jamison, the president of the SC secession convention and was the ADC to his brother-in-law, Brig. Gen. Micah Jenkins (who also was buried there before be was re-interred in Charleston). I also saw the UDC monument in question.

St. Paul officials need to respect its history and resist the urge to become a group of revisionists. The ladies at Vanderbilt has won their battle with such people...therefore, stand your ground my dear lady.

This is maddening!

Yr Obt Srvt.
