In Response To: 8th SC Battalion Inf.?? ()

The only 8th Battalion in Confederate service from SC was the 8th Bn. SC Reserve Infantry, which was formed in 1864 with 17-year old boys and men aged 45–50. Co. A was from Charleston District, and was commanded by CPT William H. BARTLESS. You can find some information on this battalion at http://www.geocities.com/sc_seedcorn/Bn08SC.htm

There was a George CONE in Heyward's Co. (Charleston Mounted Guard), 1st (Martin's) SC Mounted Militia, who died in Feb 1862. You can find some information on this regiment at http://www.geocities.com/sccavalrycsa/1st_MM.html.

Hope this helps.
