I have recently learned that my great grandfather, Thomas G. West from Kershaw SC, enlisted in the 2nd SC Regiment, Co. G, of Kershaw's Brigage on April 24th, 1861 in Camden SC.

I find little reference to the 2nd SC Regiment on this board. Would be interested in learning more if anyone had any further information.

Sgt. Thomas G. West was on active duty thru most of the major battles in VA and at Gettysburg (in the Peach Orchard), and was captured at Cedar Creek on Oct. 19th, 1864. He was held as a POW at Point Lookout until his release on June 22, 1865.

What an amazing survival story. I am lucky to be here.
