Re: 3rd South Carolina Casualties at Gettysburg

Private Thomas W. Sligh (regimental orderly) of Company E, 3rd SC regiment was killed at Gettysburg on 2 July 1863 and his corpse and wooden grave marker may have been photographed on the George Rose farm soon after the battle-he was later reburied in Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston. John Walker Stewart of Company E, but in the 3rd SC battalion (vice regiment) was also killed on the Rose farm on 2 July and buried with six others; he too was later buried in Magnolia. One of those six others was probably Sgt. Young L. Culbertson Jr. of Company C but also of the 3rd SC battalion, not regiment. Culbertson wound up in Magnolia as well. This information is extracted from Greg Coco's published work, Gettysburg: Confederate Dead.
