2nd Tennessee Mounted Infantry U.S.

2nd Tennessee Mounted Infantry U.S. Looking for ANY information on this unit, as relatively little is known about it. They served in Wayne County and surrounding counties in Tennessee, and served on the Tennessee River and garrisoned at Clifton, Tennessee. They were armed with Enfield rifles, some Remington revolvers, and a couple of Mountain Howitzers. They were led by a Colonel John Murphy.

They pretty much fought a guerrilla war, fighting the 19th (Biffle's) Tennessee Cavalry C.S. and other men under Bert Hays. The men of the 2nd TMI U.S. and the 19th TN Cav. C.S. both came from Wayne County, so it was truly brother fighting brother or rather neighbor fighting neighbor.

My gg-grandfather was a Sergeant in Company A, 2nd TMI. I have seen the Wayne County History page with links to unit info, but I was wondering if anyone out there had anything else. To date I have only seen one picture of a man in uniform in that unit. Any help would be appreciated. Please EMAIL me as that is the best way to get in touch with me, as I do not always have time to check on these boards often. Thanks again.

YOS,
