UNIT FOR CSA VET INDICATED IN 1910 CENSUS..???

Hello -

I have recently found some confirmation of CSA service for a ggg-uncle of mine, Riley Marion Byrd, from the Ft. Henry area of Stewart Co. TN. The 1910 census listing both him and his family indicates he was indeed in the CSA. Several of his brothers were in the CSA; one was at Ft. Henry TN on Feb. 6, 1862 (see URL below).

I am now trying to determine/confirm the CSA unit Riley served in; does anyone know if there were any extant obit./newspapers from the Dover TN, Paris TN, Clarksville TN, or Murray KY areas that might have existed circa 1915 (when he died)..????

It is also poss. that he might have belonged to an obscure partisan/guerrilla unit such as James K. Huey's Co. of KY Cav. Supposedly there is no extant roster for this unit, but they were present and poss. surrendered at Ft. Donelson according to an account by N.B. Forrest described in TITCW Vol. 1 (Tennesseeans In The Civil War). Besides carefully combing the POW lists for Camp Douglas, Camp Morton, et al., does anyone have any additional suggestions/ideas in these regards???

Riley's 95 year old granddaughter is VERY interested in getting a CSA vet gravemarker for him ASAP (he is buried in the Stalls Cem. in LBL). Does anyone know if evidence from the 1910 census by itself is enough for the VA..????

Thanks very much for any and all ideas, suggestions, help, etc...!!!!!

y.o.s.,

Kenneth Byrd
