A while back over on the Mississippi message board we were discussing Pvt. John Franklin Gunter of the 7th Miss. infantry as being possibly the last survivor of that unit. We have found his burial site at the Confederate Soldiers Rest, Elmwood Cemetary, Memphis, Tenn.

His headstone info states he was also in the 44th Miss., Co. K. This might make him the last survivor of both of those regiments. Date of death was April 1, 1940 (Death card index states March 30, 1940).

Anybody here that lives in Memphis or the Memphis area and who owns a digital camera please get in touch with me. His photo from 1939 is posted now on our website and I would like to obtain a gravesite photo as well. Perhaps we can reach an agreement. Thanks in advance!
