Have you looked in the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors website? There is a brief narrative of the unit listing the counties of enlistment, major battles, etc. You can also look at a roster of the regiment.

My ggg-grandfather was Pvt. Andrew Jackson Gardner, Co E. I will let you know if I find more information on the unit.
