Jerold, thanks for the help. R.T. Buchanan officially deserted on Dec. 29, 1862 and he married in Jan. 1864. He may have just returned home to occupied Stewart County in order to protect his family from yankees and guerillas, but in any case the CSA would have a hard time arresting him. I just thought that in 1863 he may joined another unit.
