Will you be mentioning other Union scouts in your book? I'm from Scott County and we had several scouts who led Union men through the mountains and into Kentucky all during the war. They went the same route north that Burnside eventually took south en route to Knoxville, with very little contact with Rebel forces due to the remoteness of the region and the difficulty of the terrain.Haven't checked out your sources on the website yet, but one potential source is the Southern Claims Commission files at the National Archives/State Archives. A number of men claiming to be scouts said their property was taken while they were escorting soldiers into Kentucky. While many were valid claims, few were proved. Still, it gives you some insight into conditions of the time as well as hardships of the scouts.
