10 20 1863 [Tuesday]

Action at Philadelphia, TN, as Confederate Cavalry forces under Col.
George G. Dibrell attack a wagon train belonging to Maj. Gen. Ambrose E.
Burnsides, USA, commanding the Dept. of the Ohio, inflicting 479
casualties on the Federals in the process. (The Chronological Tracking

Moved out to Sunny Side and just as we got to Mit Rose’s we got into a
Yankie stampede. Rebels were within two hundred yards of them. The yanks
ran for life. 450 Yankies captured at Philadelphia and 40 waggons and

Sgt. W. T. Lenoir, Co. F, 43rd Tenn. participated in the Battle of
Philadephia along with parts of the 3rd, 39th, and 59th Tennessee under
the direction of Col G. G. Dibrell with the 4th Tenn. Cavalry. (History
