My two cents for what it is worth is that more than likely he was moved. He is probably one of the many
marked Unknown-USA. After the war when the men were moved, those who were hired were not the
cream of the crop of humanity, so it was strictly luck of the draw on whether you got a person
who marked even who it was. I think the removals started around 1867, so considering all, you need to
remember that was then and not today's standards by a long shot.
Please take comfort in that he died instantly and his body was recovered. The men he served with
respected the man and did all they could do for him. If you do not have a memorial marker for this man,
I would suggest you place one with his family of the time if you can. To know what you know is better
than a lot of people got.
