Re: Donelson Union dead

Gerald, even if their exact graves could never be identified, is there not a way to at least get their names listed on the Roll of Honor at Donelson, as probably one of these 500 unknowns?

Has anyone ever begun a list of the men killed in action and buried in the area, then compared it against the known graves to at least come up with possible identities of these Unknowns?

If anyone out there is compiling such a list, these three of the 14th Iowa (Thomas Snelling, Stillman Smith, Willard Hall) should be listed among the names of the honored dead. They are listed as killed in action at Donelson on the Iowa roster and records. Snelling and Smith are also mentioned in a newly published book of a diary and letters, from the 14th Iowa about Donelson, if there is some issue of proof or probability.
